Something very Important: how long should your Blog Sidebar be?

In reading the messages and comments on the web, there is a common question that arises: how long should your blog sidebar?

It is too easy to put more stuff in your sidebar, as most themes will expand the height of the sidebar to go further and bottom of the page.

Once you get beyond the first page of content, I would be surprised if someone note widgets that put you below this point. They might look like the footer, but probably step in bits and pieces that are on page 2, 3, 4, or 5 as you press the "Page down" button on your blog.

There are bloggers who are trying to ensure that their sidebar does not exceed by their content. But there is a problem with this approach. Step for each page of your blog will be the same length.

If you don't believe me, go and compare the following pages to your blog:

The home page.Page About u.n. ' important what your archives page.A short post with no comments.A position longer with more than 10 comments.

You may be surprised how much these pages vary in length – particularly a post with a lot of comments.

The important is to not start thinking hey, there's a lot of space, that I could complete this long post, because it will make the box really long on all other pages.

Instead, you need to do is to try to keep your sidebar as a length normal post page, less comments - perhaps a little more long, but not much. I mentioned the post because a page very short on the page would be far too short, and your home page can have a totally different provision to the rest of the blog.

Empty space in your sidebar is not a bad thing. Huge gaps caused by box pushing the foot of a long way to the bottom of the page just seems ridiculous.

What is your sidebar? How many different pages on your blog in terms of length of the page?
