I've noticed an interesting pattern recently when my business and analytical of my own blog. Among the traffic sent by search engines, Bing has been on the ground. Throughout my career, I've been a proponent of Google and the idea of using another search engine didn't even exist. But times have changed and Microsoft made a ground in their relentless effort to gain market share. And as I started to watch traffic come from Bing, I had a bit of the Epiphany. I asked myself, is using different Bing than with Google as a search engine?
Take the plunge
What is the easiest way to distinguish the difference between Google and Bing? It has in fact nothing to do with algorithms or marketing, and it has everything to do with the experience. So I decided to do what research experts would consider the Holy Grail of blows, I changed my default search from Google to Bing engine and decided to make a test at least a week. And here are some of my non-analytiques conclusions:
I had a natural instinct to open a browser and type the url to Google to do a searchAnytime I ask someone to perform a search, I would say them to ' Google it '. Therefore, it has become a bit of a colloquialismNot do I adjust settings my browser default Bing home, I had to make changes to my browser tab (my tabs open a new window of research), Google is the default manual browser on my iPhone which made it difficult to search on my phone without using GoogleBing offers interesting photography on their homepage that changes every day. Photos of indices of interesting facts or world events. First these were interesting, but ultimately I stopped attention at the heard Office and Google themI a day given features a really cool logo (celebrating Les Paul, the logo has acted like a guitar). That made me visit Google and check it out.In the interface and the lists of actual research, I have noticed little difference (I do not say that it is the same)The results
Do any kind of inference if Bing is designed to mimic the results of Google search, but I'll tell you this: using Bing, for a whole week provided all the necessary information or same would generally need Google. In fact, any research felt very similar experience. Throughout the week I wasn't left with any doubt in my mind that I was missing information and I have had no real difficulty to find the information required.
I noticed that the way that Bing displays video and images is quite unique and interesting. In fact, I will admit that their video entries are more convenient than Google (it allows you to display an overview of each video, in the lists).
One and the same?
If both search experiences are so similar then what makes choose them one over the other. In my view, we are all creatures usually. We have taken the habit of Google all these years and because they have done an excellent job with their entries and provide a clean interface, we choose Google. But times are changing, and competitors will catch up later. Bing market share is supposed to be about 14% as of today, and it is growing rapidly. But as you can see from the above, convince someone to change their search engine of choice, means that provide better lists, this means changing a habit completely. It is a great obstacle, but that perhaps Bing will eventually win?
I go back to Google or keep my search engine Bing? I'll have to think that this.
